‘High Quality Care For All’ – Lord Darzi’s report

Health Minister Ara Darzi recently unveiled his ambitious plans to raise the quality of Healthcare for patient’s right across the NHS.

This report will have significant impact within the third sector. These plans will bring opportunities for voluntary and community organisations in the areas of planning and delivery of services on behalf of NHS in local areas.

One of the themes of the report is keeping people healthy. The voluntary and community sector will be given the opportunity to secure contracts for preventative work and health promotions. The contracts will be for a minimum of three years.

Lord Darzi promises Charities and Social Enterprises a greater role in providing some of the NHS services or additional services purchased by NHS for Patients and Public. This will strengthen the Third Sector financially and professionally as providers of services and contracts. This will promote financially independence within the third sector instead of a grants dependent culture.

Delivering the Children's Plan - Strengthening Children's Trusts

The Department for Children, Schools and Families is consulting on delivering the Children's Plan and in particular the arrangement for frameworks for Children's Trusts, with plans to extend the ownership of Children and Young Peoples Plans. The proposals include the suggestion that CYPPs should involve 'a consistently high quality approach to consultation with the third sector'. The consultation closes on 25 September 2008.

Do you have a room available to hire? - reminder

T3SC has many requests from groups and agencies looking for a venue to run their activities or hold an event. We also help community centres to promote the space they have available for people and groups to use. To help we’ve decided to put together a Room Hire Directory for Tameside. So, we’re calling all community centre, church halls and other venues – if you’ve got rooms (large or small), halls or other space available for hire, we want to hear from you!

All you need to do is contact Dawn on 0161 339 4985 or email dawn.acton@t3sc.org  who will collect some details from you. It’s a great way to promote your group, make links with new groups and earn extra income! We hope to launch the Directory in the autumn so please get in touch by the 12 September 2008.
