T3SC - Policy and Participation Manager
£27,594 -£29,728 pa, NJC scale points 34-37, 36 hours per week. Pay award pending.

This is an exciting opportunity to join T3SC, the CVS for Tameside, in a newly created strategic post as part of the organisation’s management team.

The successful applicant will manage T3SC’s policy and participation work, developing effective mechanisms for representation and involvement of the voluntary and community sector in civic life. They will manage a small team of staff, leading on the facilitation and further development of Voice (the community empowerment network) and its associated networks, ensuring representatives are supported and trained in their roles. The post holder will have a key role in representing T3SC, and the work of the wider sector, at a senior level, to external organisations and as a member of partnership boards, and identifying gaps and opportunities for the Voice networks to influence and shape local quality of life and LAA indicators.

The person we are looking for will have a track record of successfully working at a strategic level and of building effective relationships with key contacts; knowledge and experience of working participatively with voluntary and community organisations; effective leadership and staff management skills and experience of planning, developing and delivering complex projects. An understanding of local government and health structures, including local strategic partnerships and local area indicators, is essential. Experience of affecting change in service delivery and of researching and providing policy briefings and report writing are also important attributes that we are looking for.

This will be a demanding role, but it comes at an exciting time for the voluntary sector in Tameside. In return, we are offering the successful applicant a competitive salary package, including generous pension contribution, health plan and flexible working arrangements.

Barnardos -  Project Worker Male Community Involvement with Bangladeshi Fathers
As and When Required
£10.11 per hour
Based at : Barnardos – Sure Start Hyde
This post is Fixed Term until 31 March 2009

Could you be part of a new project within Hyde Children's Centre to engage with and support young Bangladeshi parents? You will use outreach skills to identify Bangladeshi fathers who have young children, explore their needs with them and then link in with agencies and services to ensure their needs are met. You will be required to work as and when required - up to 5 hours per week until March 2009. It is essential that you can speak Bangla.

People First Tameside - Advocacy Worker
28 Hours per week.
Part-time temporary post covering Maternity leave until end of June 2009
Pay: Scale 5 Pt. 22-25 £18,907– £20,736 pro-rata

People First is a user led organisation working with and for learning disabled people in Tameside. (Registered Charity 1087319)

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual who has strong skills in promoting and supporting people with learning disabilities in self-advocacy. The post requires the individual to have strong organisational and interpersonal skills with experience in facilitating and organising groups and training events.

The successful applicant will set-up and support advocacy groups across Tameside. The person should have excellent group work skills and experience producing accessible information and materials to support their work. Previous experience in the area of advocacy along with basic sign language and knowledge of supporting people to volunteer would be an advantage. The person will also support members to organise and run a drop-in social club each week. This post requires someone who is flexible and able to travel throughout the Tameside area.

GMVSS - Consortium Development Officer
Full-time, 35 hours per week
NJC equivalent: £21,412 - £25,320, scale 6/SO1, points 26 - 31 (plus 7% pension)

Greater Manchester Voluntary Sector Support (GMVSS) is a consortium of organisations providing support services (infrastructure) to the voluntary and community sector in Greater Manchester.
GMVSS was established in 2005 to deliver the government’s ChangeUp programme, which is managed by Capacitybuilders.

We require an individual who can:

  • Support a diverse range of voluntary sector infrastructure providers to participate in
    the GMVSS consortium and the 2008-11 work programme.

  • Assist with the planning, monitoring and management of projects and contracts.

  • Build links with and monitor the work of other ChangeUp consortia especially in the
    North West region and in other English cities.

  • Produce and disseminate information for members, partners and stakeholders.

In return, we offer a permanent contract, 22 days leave (with an additional five concessionary days plus Bank Holidays), flexible working and a convenient location close to Manchester city centre.

Grant Assessors
Casual hours - £15 per application

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals who are genuinely interested in what is happening in the local communities surrounding us in Greater Manchester.

As an independent grant maker the Community Foundation is looking for local people who would like to support the organisation, providing us with an additional resource for processing grant applications.

Our applications tend to come from small, grassroots community groups applying for relatively modest amounts to run an activity or facility in their local area. All applications are subject to a consistent process of assessment before they are submitted to grant making panels. All panel decisions are made based on the information provided.

As one of our Assessors you will ensure that this information is complete by communicating with applicants to gather additional information and/or clarify specific points.

All our Assessors receive comprehensive training and support from the outset.
