Meet the Funder - European Social Fund / Community Grants - Project Towpath
Thursday 18 September, 2.30pm – 4pm at T3SC

Greater Manchester Voluntary Sector Learning Consortium has been awarded the contract for the Community Grants Project 'Project Towpath'. These grants are aimed specifically at all small voluntary and community sector groups within Greater Manchester that help people return to work.

Grant amount: Grants up to £12,000 can be used to provide support to 'hard to reach' communities and individuals, to enable them to access employment or further learning and training.

Who for? Some examples of the type of activity that can be supported by a grant are:

  • Initial help with basic skills.

  • Taster work experience, including voluntary work.

  • Training, advice and counselling.

  • Job search assistance.

  • Confidence building and personal development.

  • Engagement activities that support individuals to overcome barriers to learning or employment

The Terrence Higgins Trust Young Leaders project

The Terrence Higgins Trust Young Leaders project has money available for groups of 13-19 year-olds to run their own projects on sex and relationships.

Young Leaders is a peer-led sex and relationship Education (SRE) project for young people across England funded by the Big Lottery Fund, and is a preventative response to the escalating rates of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) amongst young people in the UK. The North West board is made up of young people from around the region who attend meetings and participate in an Open College Network (OCN) accredited training course. The group are responsible for distributing grant money to other youth groups across the region for SRE projects.

Who for? Groups of 13-19 year-olds to run their own projects on sex and relationships. So far the North West Young Leaders board has funded 12 projects in Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Lancashire, which have included: peer education residential; DVD drama production by young people living with or affected by HIV; training and resource manuals to raise awareness of homophobia; workshops on self-confidence and sexual health related issues for young women from South Asian communities; groups of young people participating in and watching theatre productions and young people learning about local services by producing and managing a sexual health notice board in a youth centre.

Grant amount: Groups can apply for up to £1000.
