New Community Networker at T3SC

Welcome to Anna Hynes who will be joining the T3SC Health and Social Care Team. She will be replacing Jane Friend as the Community Networker.

'I am settling in at T3SC, the people are lovely and there is such a vibrant, busy atmosphere, I’m really looking forward to engaging and supporting Voluntary and Community Groups on Health and Social Care Agenda.

Before taking up this post I previously worked for Age Concern Tameside as Events Co-ordinator for the POPP’s (Partnership for Older People's Project), which gave me a great insight into Third Sector. I have in –depth knowledge of Health and Social Care and this new post will give me an opportunity to utilise my existing knowledge and skills for the benefit of Third Sector.

In my recreational time I help my mum with running a small Charity Kingfisher Riding Group for Disabled People near Glossop. This has given me awareness of pressures and difficulties small voluntary and community groups face on a daily basis.

I look forward to working with you and if you would like to contact me please ring 0161 339 4985 or email anna.hynes@t3sc.org'

T3SC and LINk - Tameside 3rd Sector Coalition (T3SC) will be hosting the new Local Involvement Network (LINk)!

What is LINk?
LINk – The Local Involvement Network will give the local community their chance to have their views heard on how all local health and social care services should be planned and run. LINk will be a network of local people, organisations and groups that want to improve care services in Tameside. LINk won’t take over from existing groups but will bring the whole community together and have a stronger voice.

T3SC will be hosting LINk in Tameside and will work with local people and organisations to set up and support LINk.

How will you find out more?
You will be hearing a lot more about the exciting new LINk project over the next few months, through T3SC’s quarterly Newsletter, Monthly E-Bulletin and on a new dedicated area on our website www.t3sc.org

If you would like to speak to someone about LINk please contact Susan Patterson, Tel: 0161 339 4985, Email: susan.patterson@t3sc.org

Decommissioning of Tameside Community Webspace

T3SC is discontinuing the Tameside Community Webspace. The website contained amongst other things a directory of voluntary and community groups in Tameside. The site wasn't fulfilling it's aims - the majority of the site would duplicate T3SC's main site, if it had been regularly updated, and the directory of groups contained very limited information and just signposted to T3SC for further information, making it more frustrating than useful. We have decided to discontinue this resource and concentrate on www.t3sc.org making sure information is clear and constantly updated.

One of the main reasons we have come to this decision is that Tameside Library has a great database of groups: Libraries Local Groups and Organisations Database. If you are part of a group it is also easy to add your details to the database. If you did have your details on Tameside Community Webspace please add yourself to the Library database where we will be directing enquiries.

Do you have a room available to hire?

T3SC has many requests from groups and agencies looking for a venue to run their activities or hold an event. We also help community centres to promote the space they have available for people and groups to use. To help we’ve decided to put together a Room Hire Directory for Tameside. So, we’re calling all community centre, church halls and other venues – if you’ve got rooms (large or small), halls or other space available for hire, we want to hear from you!

All you need to do is contact Dawn on 339 4985 or email dawn.acton@t3sc.org  who will collect some details from you. It’s a great way to promote your group, make links with new groups and earn extra income! We hope to launch the Directory in the autumn so please get in touch by the 12 September 2008.

Bustling Marketplace

T3SC held a vibrant marketplace to showcase the range of 3rd sector services delivered across Tameside. Over 60 people came to this event, shared cake made by Topaz, water provided by the Water Adventure Centre and carried their goodies home in a bag supplied by Re-cycle-it! Speakers from National Association of Voluntary Community Action, Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary organisations, Tameside MBC and T3SC warmed up the crowd sharing their view on the opportunities for the sector and round table discussion followed by time to get to know more about the commissioning priorities in different directorates and begin dialogue about how to increase the third sector market.

Thanks to all those who attended the day.

Here are copies of presentations from the day:

Tameside Computer Buddy Wins National UK online Award

Last month Lee Borrell, a Tameside Computer Buddy, was invited to the Globe Theatre in London to collect a national award for his voluntary work as a computer mentor. Lee has been volunteering with Tameside Computer Buddies for three years and helps people gain the computer skills they need. Lee says, ‘I passionately believe in opening up computers and the internet to people. Everyone is different and people can just “dip their toe in” or take it much further.’

Tameside Computer Buddies offer free 1-2-1 computer guidance for adults across Tameside’s thirteen libraries. The service will provide an introduction to an IT subject or can help explain how to do a particular computer task.

If you would like to become a volunteer, are patient with people and confident around a computer then do get in touch. If you would like help to do an IT task then call to book a free 90 minute session.
