Book Club Volunteers Needed

Tameside Libraries are looking for volunteers to support and lead four new readers’ groups for people over 55 across the Borough this Autumn.

The Book Time for Yourself Clubs will work very differently from standard readers’ groups:

  • They will meet weekly during the day for a maximum of 90 minutes.

  • Books will be read aloud to the group, meaning members do not need to read anything in advance.

  • They are pressure free - members can give their views on what they have heard or simply relax and listen.

  • Groups will not concentrate on high brow literature, but more on humorous tales, short stories and reminiscence.

If you are friendly and like working with people over 55; are interested in books and reading; enjoy working in a team; and you are a good listener then we would love to hear from you. Full training will be given and expenses paid. For an informal chat please ring Rachel Gee on 0161 342 2232.

Leadership Required

  • Are you a supporter of the voluntary sector?

  • Do you value its independence, creativity and commitment?

  • Do you believe it has a major role to play in the economic and social welfare of the people of Greater Manchester?

  • Would you like to see it getting a fair share of resources and punching its weight with the policy makers?

Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation (GMCVO) is seeking six Board members for election at our AGM on 27th October 2008. This is an exciting time for GMCVO which is developing a diverse range of work aimed at the promotion, representation and development of the voluntary / third sector of Greater Manchester in the context of the emerging city region.

For an application pack, more information about what is involved and some brief details about GMCVO, please ring for an initial discussion. GMCVO upholds equal opportunities and welcomes applications from anyone with appropriate skills and knowledge.
