Droylsden Together - Networking event

Health is for Life Health Fair

Medlock Festival of Sport - Free sport for the whole family
Sunday 22 February, 10am - 4pm at Medlock Leisure Centre, Droylsden

Tameside Sports Development and Tameside Sports Trust in conjunction with Droylsden Sports Forum have arranged a sports festival in Droylsden.

Come and try a variety of FREE sports and physical activity such as cricket, yoga, health walks, football, swimming, canoeing, dance … much more will be available on the day along with lots of free giveaways.

Talk on The Mental Capacity Act
Wednesday 25 February, 7.30pm at the Broadoak Hotel, Broadoak Road, Ashton-under-Lyne

Ashton Mencap Information and Drop In Service will be hosting a talk on ‘The Mental Capacity Act 2005’ which has been updated and also Court of Protection Issues and Lasting Powers of Attorney (formerly Enduring Powers of Attorney) followed by general questions.

Who for?

The purpose of the talk is to inform parents with children (now adults) with learning disabilities about the new law. If a parent dies, who has power of attorney to control their children's finances and what happens to the family estate etc?

The talk is for parents, carers and people working in Learning Disabilities.

Personal questions will be dealt with via appointment with the solicitors. The presentation will be by Bromley Hyde & Robinson Solicitors.

All are welcome and refreshments are provided.

Tameside Health walks - get your walking boots on

The Ashton Health Walks are a series of four routes, taken in rotation, covering the countryside around Ashton. The routes are between 2.75 and 3.50 miles long, all fairly flat and taken at a pace suitable for inexperienced walkers.

They take place every Wednesday at 11am and are open to everyone. Boots aren’t actually necessary but stout footwear is recommended.

18 February– Broadoak Centre for Knott Hill

25 February – Portland Basin for Peak Forest Canal

TASCA Autism Awareness Day

TASCA (Tameside Action for Social Communication and Autism support group) is holding an autism awareness open day on Thursday 2 April 9:30am- 4pm at Dukinfield town hall in the jubilee room.

This open day is to promote the services and support on autism available to parents and carers alike. This would also be a great opportunity for professionals to find out more on autism to help and support children living within Tameside.

Learn dance routines and new moves

There is a new street dance class set up for both adults and children aged 11 plus. Its 50p for children aged 11 - 16 and £1.50 for 16 and above.

The sessions are held on Wednesday evenings 5pm – 6pm at Broadoak Community Centre Ashton-under-Lyne. The session starts off with a fun 15 minute warm up, then 30 minutes learning a dance routine and finally 15 minutes toning up. The sessions are fun and interactive. They give the whole family chance to get fit together.

Visting Author as part of Chinese New Year Celebrations

26 January was Chinese New Year with 2009 being the year of the Ox. Tameside library has a series of events and visiting authors.

Author Liu Hong will visit Denton Library on Wednesday 11 February (2pm - 3.30pm) as part of the programme. She will be discussing contemporary Chinese writing as well as talking about her favourite books.

Accessible Cycling Experience – Everybody Cycling Event
19 February 2009, 10am-2pm at Richmond Street Athletics Track, Ashton-under-Lyne

Join us for an exciting all abilities cycling event. The event is in partnership with the Learning Disability Physiotherapy Team, Cycle-ops Adventure and Sports Development. All abilities are welcome and a hoist and sling will be available.

Trainees from The Park Café (a catering training resource for adults with learning disabilities) will be selling hot soup, sandwiches and drinks.
